roman numerals are a numeral used in europe before the introduction of arabic numerals (actually indian numerals), and are less commonly used now. it was produced later than the numbers in chinese oracle bones, and even later than the decimal numbers of the egyptians. however, its emergence marks the progress of an ancient civilization.
